I have mixed feelings about video, largely because I
live in a rural area and won’t have high speed until
another four to twelve months. At the moment, I
find automatic loading videos an annoyance, and will
often leave the website or close a page, when I see
a video loading.
My impression of video will likely change, when I
routinely have a high speed connection. However,
the written word has been around for a long time,
and will not be replaced easily. I think it will always
remain effective, as long as there are intelligent
people who can read.
I would remind marketers that there are still a
large number of people with slow internet connection
speeds. To rely on video, alone, is to isolate a
large number of potential customers. As well,
I would rather have a choice as to whether I
want to see a video. I think it would be much more
customer or surfer friendly, if videos would not
load and play automatically.

Just kidding. You make a great point, and we do tend to cater to high-speed connections, but we haven’t forgotten about you.
It’s just that dial up almost a thing of the past. For example, when I look at my Google Analytics (which I’ll be writing a whole article about in the future) it tells me that only 4.17% of my visitors are on dial-up. Nearly 70% are on T1, cable or DSL. The remaining 26% are unknown.
So on the flip-side of this issue, you can consider that the prevalence of high-bandwidth content is pushing the infrastructure development….and getting high-speed connections to you faster.

I say yes, we are not yet seeing the end of the long copy sales letter. I doubt it too, and Yes there is definitely a new player on the field… and like every Player that is worth his salt knew already that video sales letter is the new wave of all intenet marketing tools.
Much still depends on how fast video downloads could be achieved and watched, for some of the videos sent me, I have not been able to watch many because of the problems faced with Adobe Flash player update download.
If downloading flash players persist in frustrations, I must confess that we are not seeing the end of copy letters, though they could always be short and precise contextual letters.

I was very pleased to see Mike back in action again, I got worried when all I saw from him was offers for “Damaged Sets” of old information.

Videos are all very well, but as with a sales letter a lot of “readers” want to be able to see the bottom of the page quickly to see if it’s worth wading through the pitch. I literally fell asleep when it was running. The video player doesn’t have a slider bar quick queue tool to be able to actually find the important stuff or replay stuff you missed (cause you FELL ASLEEP!!).
REMEMBER: when you do video or an audio with slide show talk to the person who is your audience and viewer like a friend. Be personable and have interest in the other person. Don’t try to be interesting.
